Luke QT: EE training on Summer of 2018
Chapter 1 My spirit rejoices
1-38 I am the servant of the Lord
Today’s passage (Luke 1:1-38) is foretelling John the baptist and Jesus Christ’s birth and Luke describes John as (17)“to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.” and Jesus as (32) “the Son of the Most High”. In both cases, I can observed that angels were involved indicating God’s divine calling and importance of the events.
The most impressive thing on today’s passage to me is Mary’s reaction on the news delivered by the angel Gabriel. Her first reaction was (34) “How will this be …?” as Zechariah’s (18), and, I think, this reaction would be normal to anyone on this kind of surprising news - a virgin having a baby, the Son of the Most High. But the impressive thing is that, after the Gabriel’s explanation, she said, (38) “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” To me, this is FAITH. Considering a very young girl (maybe, age doesn’t matter for faith), Mary showed amazing faith on Lord and His word.
My prayer today is that God help me so that everyday I can joyfully confess “Jesus is my Lord and let it be according to your word”. The pray also goes to our training team. Praise Christ Jesus our Lord.
38-80 My spirit rejoices in God
Mary’s praising is indeed blessing, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,”
My spirit rejoices ~~
Chapter 2 Who is Christ
1-21 Who is Christ the Lord
I also blessed by verse 11. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
The Savior and Lord! Praise God and thanks for sending Jesus Christ. My lips only can confess, as shepherds did (20) “glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.”
22-52 Light for revelation to the Gentiles
I also see that Simeon’s praise is beautiful, starting with (29) “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace …”. He was so pleased and now he could finish his life because (30) “for my eyes have seen your salvation”. Just beautiful.
Another noticeable is (32) “a light for revelation to the Gentiles” Simeon was prophesying that Jesus is Savior for all people including the Gentiles like us. Praising God.
Chapter 3 His winnowing fork
I was impressed by, (9) “Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.” (17) “His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”
John the baptist was preparing Jesus’ path who will be the judge and has authorities for final destination of a man, human being. This reminds me of urgency, that we all have to abide in Jesus and let others know of coming judgment.
Chapter 4 I was sent for this purpose
(33) "but he said to them, "I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns as well; for I was sent for this purpose." That verse also impresses and helps me to focus on goal, purpose and priority of my life. The reason God has us being here instead taking right away to heaven - spreading the Gospel.
Holy Sprit fills my heart with joy when my lips are adoring goodness of God. Praise the Lord.
Chapter 5 Leave everything and follow him
In Luke chapter 5, Jesus taught the word of God, healed the sicks, performed miracles. Also called His first disciples telling them, (9) “from now on you will be catching men”. Peter and James’ reaction was, (11) “left everything and followed him” which is same to later Levi (Matthew)’s (28).
“Leave everything and follow him” is what Jesus kept commanding to his followers throughout the chapters of the Gospel of Luke, better to say, throughout the all 4 Gospels, or even I should say, throughout the whole Bible. We, as christians, should “leave everything and follow Jesus”, and not to be church goers, nor men practicing religion (종교인 宗敎人), nor lukewarm, nor pretenders. As inline with what Hosun’s shared yesterday, we ought to become fishermen of man. Leave everything, follow, … spread Gospel. Matthew 7:14 “For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few”
Prayer items:
- For Jae Choi, who heard the Gospel on last Saturday OJT, to open his heart and surrender his life to Jesus
- For the team (and church), to leave everything and follow Jesus, and to make evangelism become the most important part of our life
- For myself, evening time devotional - don’t waste (in Youtube) but spend time with God
Chapter 6 Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath
1-19 Jesus Is Lord of the Sabbath
Jesus was doing his ministries and the scribes and the Pharisees, the leaders of Jews, were watching him. They were so obsessed by laws and regulations and forgot the God’s purpose of those rules - which is LOVE. They accused that Jesus healed a handicapped on the Sabbath, and Jesus replied (9) ”is it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?”
I am asking to myself, “Am I doing things for LOVE or for other reasons?” Father, please remove my hypocrisies and pretenses.
20-49 Blessed ... Woe
Jesus is teaching “blessed” and “woe”.
Blessed … poor, hungry, weep, and people hate b/c Jesus … Woe … rich, full, laugh, people speak well …
What am I pursuing for? Am I worldly? Can’t witness our precious Lord, and boastful about people like me? Father, help me to be poor and humble so I can be desperate for You. Help to fill my heart with Words, obey, and be content only with You. Help to weep over my sinful nature and the lost souls. Help to be boldly share You, love whom hate me, and follow You joyfully.
Mercy on me. Mercy on us.
Chapter 7 Centurion’s Faith
1-17 Centurion’s Faith
(6-8) “Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof. Therefore I did not presume to come to you. But say the word, and let my servant be healed. For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me: and I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” And Jesus marveled at his faith. I don’t think Jesus admired many and can imagine that the centurion knew/understood,
(1) he is not worthy (2) Jesus is the Lord and has divine authority.
Like as in EE’s session.07, “A”dmit, “B”eleive, “C”ommit - faith involves admitting how sinful self is and believing and committing (surrendering) to Jesus Christ, our precious Lord.
Father, please help me/us to have faith like the centurion’s.
18-50 John the Baptist and Repentance
A woman came and washed Jesus’ feet with her tears and perfume. What a picture of repentance and worshiping the Lord! Typical response to Jesus - I am sorry for my sins and thanks for saving me even though I am a terrible sinner. This Monday morning, this passage reminds me again His goodness and draw me to worship Him. Praise Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior!
Contrast to her, the Pharisee thought (39) “what sort of woman this is … for she is a sinner” and (30) “the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the purpose of God for themselves, not having been baptized by John” They did not repent because they thought they were not sinners and rejected Jesus, their Messiah.
Father, please keep remind us that how sinful we are and how desperately need you. With the poor spirit and gratitude, we truly worship you like the woman did, live godly life for You are holy and joyfully witness you for others also need You, desperately. Father, please help us, we desperately need You - everyday, every morning, every moment ...
Chapter 8 Do not fear; only believe
1-25 Those who hear the word of God and do it
Jesus kept proclaiming the good news of the Kingdom of God through the parables while showing His deity by calming a storm.
A couple things blessed and challenged me this morning.
1. (16,17) “No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light. For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.” The Gospel, the truth, the goodness of God, should be and will be known and manifested; first by Jesus Christ and followed by His disciples. Praise God, Your name only be exalted!
2. Jesus kept emphasizing the importance of obedience, (15) “As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience.” and (21) “But he answered them, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.”
Father, please bless us that we open our heart to hear Your words and obey them. Please bless us so we keep proclaiming the good news as the Lord did. Lord, we love you and joyfully tell how good You are and what You have done for us.
26-56 Do not fear; only believe
Jesus healed the sicks, casted out demons, and even raised the dead showing who He is - as the demon-possessed man confessed, (28) “Jesus, Son of the Most High God”. The Son of the Most High God, who also showed His love as He healed the woman who was sick for 12 years and dying, and as He told her tenderly, (48) “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.” Jesus kept giving them care, love, hope and, eventually, salvation from imperfect conditions of theirs. He is doing so today for us too. Thanks and praise the Lord!
(50) tells us our responsibility, “Do not fear; only believe“. Believe in the Lord Jesus, God almighty! Also the reaction of the once demon-possessed man reminds us our mission, (39) “And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.” I believe the once sick woman also had similar reaction.
Father, help us have faith; not to fear the world, the power of evil, people, nor circumstances, but only believe in You. Help us to keep loving, caring others and proclaiming, in season or out of season, who Jesus is and how much You have done for us.
Chapter 9 The cost of following
1-36 Sending 12
(KH) Jesus sent 12 disciples to proclam to the kingdom of God. For that He gave them powers and. Authorities. Those powers are given to us for God's kingdom not for ourselves. That's the reason Jesus told them " take nothing" so we only can rely on Him
(JY) Amen, I had very similar thought. I always excited and challenged by reading about Jesus sending His disciples for evangelism with take nothing but rely in Him only. Feeding 5000 also proves that we can rely on Him is more than enough for He is almighty. Praise the Lord ~~
37-62 The cost of following
(JS) “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head....go and proclaim the kingdom of God"
I pray that Jesus continues to reveal the truth through the book of Luke. Our home is not this earth, nor is it our home and family. Just as birds have nests to return to, we must remember that our end goal is the kingdom of God, where Jesus is sitting at the at the right hand of our Father and interceding on our behalf. Therefore, let us not bury ourselves in this temporary land but instead live for what is everlasting -- eternity in the kingdom of God.
(JY) Little late “Amen”, for we just came back from the retreat where internet wasn't good - which is good actually ^^ Well said Jeesun! I totally agree, “The cost of following Jesus”, it’s worth it and can gladly pay the cost for eternity of God’s Kingdom is much much precious than any other thing. As also Jesus said, “my yoke is easy and burden is lighter”, I pray that we all take our cross daily joyfully. Praise God.
Chapter 10 Sending 72
In this chapter, I am able to draw the essential applications of Christian life - "love neighbors".
(1-24) Jesus sent 72, the very similar event to sending 12 in chapter 9, with these two similar events, I can see the importance of sending (for us “going”) for evangelism. This reminds me of the Great Commission which starts with (Mat 28:19) “Go”. We must “go” where harvest is plentiful, should not be sitting in the comfortable church building only but “go” and share the good news. With which, I believe, we can participate in our Lord’s joy; (20) “he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit” only place in bible mentioning Jesus’ rejoicing. In (25-37), Luke has the parable of Good Samaritan. It seems to me this is beautifully arranged so I can get the applications of the Christian life style - proclaiming the Gospel and helping the needs, the harmony of Great Commission and Great Command - "love neighbors". And (38-42), the “Martha and Mary” story tells that what base we should do all these things - Jesus Christ, His Word, the Bible.
Father, please bless us so our whole life is Jesus centered by witnessing how good You are and how much You have done for us and by helping the needs. So through us, Your glory only be magnified to the world, and all of Your creatures worship You. Father, please help us follow Your Word not our own understanding, feeling, nor worldly teachings. We love You and gladly want to obey for You are a so good God.
Chapter 11 The Lord’s prayer
1-28 the Lord’s prayer
(1-13) Jesus teaches how to pray to disciples; we should pray boldly and persistently.
One verse caught my eyes; (13) “how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” I couldn’t connect “give the Holy Spirit” within the passage. So researched and found one pastor explains this way - we asks products but God gives generously the source of the products. Holy Spirit is the source of fruits (Galatians 5) and source of power for evangelism (Acts 1:8) and we are sanctified by the Spirit. I am not sure if that comment is 100% accurate but helpful for me to understand. And think that comment is inline with (1 John 5:14) “if we ask anything according to his will he hears us”. Since the Spirit helps our prayers as well, the Spirit guides our prayers to God’s will. Since the Spirit is one of trinity, the Spirit, God guides our prayer to His own will. Regardless of correctness of any comments, Jesus' saying, “how much more will the heavenly Father give”, comforts me because the fact is that He is faithful and a good God, the best.
(14-26) teaches on spiritual discernment. And again our Lord stressed on obedience saying, (28) “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!”
Father, help us to pray boldly and persistently, and to fill with the Holy Spirit so we can discern well by Your Words and obey them.
29-54 They neglect justice and the love of God
(29-36) Jesus describes himself as a sign as Jonah was the sign in Nineveh. And enough evidence has been reveled (light) but many won’t see because of their eyes. (37-54) Warning to leaders of Jews for their hypocrisy, lovelessness, To me the key is, (42) “neglect justice and the love of God.” Regarding “the love of God”, Jesus says, (John 14:15) “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
Father, please help us not to follow sins which cloud our eyes. Help us so we can clearly see the truth and follow by practicing justice and by loving You which is obeying your commands. Help us to fill with Holy Spirit so we can do these out of joy. Praise God for your faithful guidances; Your name only be glorified.
Chapter 12 Fear Him
1-34 Fear Him
(1-3) Jesus warns Pharisees, the religious leaders who were hypocrite. And (4-12) He teaches not to fear witnessing Him against (religious) leaders, or I’d say, against the religious system from which, at that time, Jewish people afraid to be expelled. On (13-34), Jesus again puts emphasis on not worrying about worldly things but storing treasures in heaven by seeking His kingdom whole heartedly.
The most valuable lesson to me is, (5) fear him, …, who has authority to cast in hell and (7) Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows Proverbs says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom”. Here “fear” is not about afraid of wicked forces but respect and reverence toward absolutely just and righteous authority which only God has. Once we have the right “fear” of God we’d have less fear on other worldly things.
Father, please bless us so we do “fear You” and do not fear who can kill our body but can’t do anything after. Please help us so we can boldly and joyfully live the Christian life - helping the needy and witnessing You for Your kingdom.
35-59 Must be ready
In today passage, Jesus teaches, must being ready, warning against not believing, and urgency of repentance (reconcile with God). The verse caught my eyes is, (40) You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. I must be (spiritually) ready for the moment - discipline my mind, not allow myself indulging worldly pleasures or sins, and shard the Gospel to others before it’s too late.
Father, thanks for reminding us for urgency of spiritual warfare. Bless us to “put on the whole armors of God” so we are to be ready and keep fight the good fight till end. Please help us. We are only looking at you, Lord, our only strength.
Chapter 13 Strive to enter through the narrow door
Jesus kept proclaiming the Gospel and helping the needy.
(1-9) Repent or perish - Everyone needs to repent and God is patient gives enough time to people to repent, (10-17) A crippled woman healed on the Sabbath - Jesus showed love but the rule of synagogue showed hypocrisy, (18-21) The parables of the mustard seed - powerful influence of God’s kingdom, (22-30) the narrow door - (24) Strive to enter through the narrow door, (31-35) Jesus’ sorrow for Jerusalem - pit on non repent resulting destruction,
To me, chapter 13’s theme is repentance. (1-9) Jesus teaches that everyone needs to repent. And (31-35) shows sorrow over Jerusalem who won’t repent. (24) shows our application, ”Strive to enter through the narrow door”, in NIV, ”Make every effort to enter through the narrow door.”. The Lord mentioned similar commands many times and warned that "few will find it" (Mat 7:14). Bible clearly teaches that the salvation is by faith alone but also is clear what the faith produces - “repentance”, “obedience” and “fruits”.
Father, enlighten any of our hypocrisy and help us to strive to enter through the narrow door. And fill our heart with powerful influence of God’s kingdom and proclaim it.
Chapter 14 Cost of Discipleship
(KH) So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple. Salt is good, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? (Luke 14:33-34) Being a disciple of Jesus means a full commitment to Christ, not just selective or temporary. But, often our faith is challenged by many worldly values, such as wealth, career, and personal relationships, which often appear to be so significant and important that we fail to put Jesus first. So, although as Christians we say numerous times with our lips that Jesus is of utmost importance in our lives, these verses challenged me if I really mean it and if my actions and thoughts reflect it. I pray that we truly appreciate what it means to fully commit to Jesus so that we can be the ‘good salt’ retaining the taste, not a salt that loses its taste.
(JY) Amen, well said Kyuho! I personally believe that is one of most important lessons as Jesus says, if we don’t surrender our whole thing we can’t be His disciple. With that faith, our priority, way of thinking, talking, … are being changed bearing beautiful fruits. Praise God.
In my meditation, Jesus teaches being humble, urgency of repentance (21), the cost of being a disciple. The last verse caught my eves, (35) “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
Father, please bless us to hear your guidance voice and carry on (obey) it.
Chapter 15 Lost & Found
This morning, the chapter reminds me what’s the joy of God - a sinner returning to Him. (7) there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance Same in (10), and father’s joy when the prodigal son has come back in (20-24), (33).
Father, convict us how sinful we are so we run toward to You and Your grace alone. Please help us to join Your joy through our mission - search and rescue the lost ones.
Chapter 16 Jesus teaches hell
Today, Jesus teaches me, (13) ”You cannot serve God and money.”, (15)”God knows your hearts.” and a hell story (19-31). People go to hell because, as Jesus says in (31), they didn’t hear the Words. Jesus teaches about hell many times and it helps me to remind God’s just, holy, and righteousness and urgency. Thus motivate me being holy and sharing Gospel to the not saved yet.
Chapter 17 Humility & Urgency
Through Luke chapter 17, our Lord, Jesus teaches, (1-10) how we treat brothers/sisters, must be a humble servant (faith is obeying humbly), (11-19) only 1 out of 10 healed ones came back to thank Jesus, (20-37) the judgement day is coming (Jesus’ 2nd coming). In today’s passage, I was able to pick up 2 applications; humility & urgency (spiritual readiness),
Father, thanks for feeding us with precious Words. As You teaches, please help us to be humble as we are unworthy and by Your grace alone saved, being sanctified, and to be glorified. Help us to longing for meeting You in when we see unfathomable, tremendous, and awesome glory of Your. And help us to proclaim the Gospel boldly in season out-of season for we know the end is coming in when there is no more mercy for non-believers.
Chapter 18 Repentance, Grace, Faith, and Perseverance
Jesus' teaching is continue, and with today’s passage I found several things our Lord keeps emphasizing through the Gospel of Luke so far. Repentance & grace (9-14), true faith (15-30), and perseverance of that faith (1-8). While His love kept shown (35-42). The core of the Gospel - “repentance”, “grace”, “faith” and He encourages “perseverance” as it's well summarized in (Mat 24:13) “But the one who endures to the end will be saved.“
Father, allow us such faith so that we can endure over the period of spiritual decline and persecutions so Your holy name shall be exalted.
Chapter 19 To Seek and save the lost
Today’s passage, Jesus tells of His purpose, (10) “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Tells what He expects from His people using the parable of the 10 minas. And shows His compassion by weeping over Jerusalem and His justice and zeal by cleansing the temple. Most impressive verse, to me is, while His triumph entry into Jerusalem, (40) “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.” With which I caught a glimpse of His awesome glory.
Holy Father, as our Lord did, we too want to be used for seeking and saving the lost, please fill our heart to love and joyfully go after them. Help us longing for Your compliment “Well done, good servant!” We praise You, Lord, as even stones would cry out for Your glory. Hallelujah!
Chapter 20 The Authority of Jesus Challenged
Jesus teaches religious leaders who caught up with their own righteousness and couldn’t recognize Jesus as their messiah. Jesus lovingly (patiently) teaches them using parables and old testament so they could understand and repent. And He warns, (46, 47) “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love greetings in the marketplaces and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widows' houses and for a pretense make long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation.” They sometimes amazed by Jesus’ teachings, but sadly, as we all know, they didn’t repent, or refused to, and nailed Him onto cross.
Father, please help us NOT to be religious and hypocrite. Help us to be poor in spirit and humbly follow You.
Chapter 21 Signs of the End of the Age
Jesus teaches about the end of the age (2nd coming) - false teachings, wars, revolutions, fearful events. And the followers would be persecuted, as in (17) ”You will be hated by all for my name's sake.”. But the Lord comforts (18) ”But not a hair of your head will perish.” As His disciples, at that time, all died mostly on the cross so I can guess here “a hair” means not physical but spiritual or eternal. And Jesus encourages (19) “By your endurance you will gain your lives.
Father, help us to exam if our heart is weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life. Not to be deceived by false teachings, (36) ”but stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”. Encourage us to endure and witness boldly even in persecutions and difficulties for Your precious glory.
Chapter 22
1-38 The Last Supper
Jesus was having the last meal (Passover) with His disciples. He teaches meaning of His sacrifice and the communion. In contrast, while those very important teachings, Luke also tells, Jewish leaders’ plot to kill Him, Judas’ betrayal, the disciples’ prideful arguments, and Peter’s denial. Jesus knew all those thing and that night is just before His being captured, suffering, and die on the cross. Imagine how our Lord felt. However our precious Lord, even in this situation, comforts His disciples. This comforts me most - His saying to Peter, (32) ”I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail.” He also again warns His disciples’ imminent hardships (35-37).
(3) “Satan entered into Judas called Iscariot, who was of the number of the twelve.” Judas was one of the twelve, but as NIV study bible comments, he never displayed strong commitment to Jesus. And he eventually used by Satan. Jewish leaders, and other people who followed Jesus for miracles, good teachings, … but not many truly committed to Jesus and eventually they nailed Him to the cross. The leaders, (2) ”feared the people”. They ought to fear God, not people. They ought to love the people, not to fear them. And they ought to love God, not outwardly but inwardly.
Heavenly Father, I pray for myself, team, and church. Please help us to open our heart, exam our faith, and totally commit to You. Help us to understand Your agony and suffering, Your precious blood and flesh and Your precious love. We want to love You, we want to have Your heart toward people. With that love, help us, so we can take up our cross and go through narrow gate. Protect us so we are not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.
(28,29) “You are those who have stayed with me in my trials, and I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom
39-71 Jesus' prayer
As through the Chapter 22, Luke describes Jesus’ agony; the disciples couldn’t resist their sorrow and were sleeping, the traitor Judas and religious leaders with the crowd were coming to capture Him. After they would mock, accuse, and harass. All knowing this, in this situation, Jesus comforts His disciples (on Friday’s passage), and in today’s passage I noticed that He prays (39-46). In His prayer I could get some applications: 1. Jesus prays in habit (regularly) as in (39) ”as was his custom”, 2. He prays earnestly, as in (42) ”remove this cup from me” and (44) ”in agony he prayed more earnestly”. 3. He prays for Father’s will, as in (42) ”not my will, but yours, be done”. A beautiful example for how to pray, and as always, our Lord shows perfect examples.
Also noticed that, He told the disciples (40) “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.”. This is also in the Lord’s Prayer (Mat 6:9-13). Which remains me that we, Christians, are in warfare and without His might we can’t fight against the spiritual forces of evil. We must ask and rely on God for help. And Jesus, our Lord, prayed and it’s was triumph, He got tempted but He overcame them - He died on the cross and rose from the dead to paid the penalty of our sins. Crushed Satan’s head. What a victory! Hallelujah!
Father, help us our prayers. So we can pray without ceasing, earnestly (we are weak and You are strong), and for Your will. Thanks for being a perfect example, help us to keep follow You. "Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect!"
Chapter 23
1-25 Jesus before Pilate
Jesus is being accused. And the behavior of Pilate, the governor, shows a lesson. He said, (14) And after examining him before you, behold, I did not find this man guilty of any of your charges against him. He was not upholding the truth (or his discernment); not because of logical nor objective objections but because he was afraid of people; (23) And their voices prevailed. On the contrary, Jesus never compromised but was telling the truth or just silencing.
Father, help us to discern well. Thank that You have given the Words, the truth, for our clear discernment. Help us to love Your Words and keep/obey them. Not afraid of people nor compromise but telling the truth in love.
26-56 Jesus Crucified
Jesus, being crucified, shows mercy and love toward people and obedience to Father. He asks forgiveness for whom were crucifying Him, (34) ”Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” He saves one of criminals who were hanged railed at Him, (43) ”Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” And last words, ”Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.”
He also warns on the judgement day (28-30). In chapter 19, Jesus wept over Jerusalem and now asks women to weep for her.
In the midst of this sad time (triumph in terms of God’s plan), Luke also shows, (50-51) ”a good and righteous man, who had not consented to their decision and action; and he was looking for the kingdom of God.”
Father, we worship you this morning for Your mercy, grace, love, and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, Your Son. With which we can catch a glimpse of Your perfect goodness, majestic holiness, and ultimate authority. Hallelujah! Help us to make much of Jesus and to look for the kingdom of God.
